Alexis Krauss and Derek Miller return today with their sophomore album named “Reign of Terror.” Revolutionary title aside, the album itself brings nothing of sorts to the table. It’s noisy, it’s poppy, it’s angsty and it has attitude coming out of its hooha. I will go ahead and also add, that it’s exactly what Sleigh Bells fans expect from their darling Brooklyn duo.

It makes sense that the first single from the album is the one that is most radio friendly and “Comeback Kid” is definitely a track that will be  enjoyed even by an audience who isn’t yet familiar with the racket Sleigh Bells can produce. Although the soft and high-pitched vocals of Alexis are laid on a bed of blearing guitars and a drum beat that brings forth images of guns going off, it can get much ear-splitting than this; on the first album as well as on the second.  On “Comeback Kid”  we get what’s left of fight music after you substitute the knuckle sandwiches with some air punches and an awkward choreography, or in less words, it’s exactly what we’re used from Sleigh Bells with all their baseball bat swinging and midday band member shoot-outs we’ve already seen in the past.

The video for “Comeback Kid” is the best visual Sleigh Bells have come up with to date. Even though the fashion is like Dalston Superstars threw up all over the place, Alexis Krauss looks so good in it, I want to watch the video on repeat  just so I can admire how pretty she is. And this is a straight girl who’s saying this, so the fellas must be having a, well, a type of field day. Otherwise it’s a very 2012 hipster production with lots of colors, Ray-bans, and images of upper mid class suburban America, which is apparently the main reason why all these anxious kids are running around these days.
